Tell me more »

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Unite 4 Humanity - 100% Donation Policy Charity to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Unite 4 Humanity - 100% Donation Policy Charity will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Unite 4 Humanity - 100% Donation Policy Charity receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.

Zakat FAQ

Obligation of Zakat

Zakat becomes due when your money or assets reach the nisaab threshold and a lunar (Hijri) year has passed since that point.

The nisaab is set at 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. Once your wealth meets or exceeds this amount for a full Hijri year, you must pay Zakat at a rate of 2.5% (one-quarter of one-tenth).

All forms of wealth count towards this, whether stored in a bank or otherwise. This includes savings and assets like trade goods. If the total reaches the nisaab on its own or when combined with other assets, and remains at or above that level for a year, Zakat is due.

Categories of People Who can Receive Zakat

There are eight categories of people entitled to zakat according to Allah’s saying:

“Indeed, [prescribed] zakat are only [to be given] to the poor and the indigent, and to those who work on [administering] it, and to those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to [free] those in bondage, and to the debt-ridden, and for the cause of Allah, and to the wayfarer. [This is] an obligation from Allah And Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.”

{Al-Qur’an, 9:60}

Summarised Fiqh of Zakat

Zakat becomes obligatory on money & assets when both of the following conditions are met:

  1. They reach the minimum threshold (nisaab).
  2. A lunar year has passed since reaching the nisaab.

If the money and assets fall below the nisaab, then no zakat is due.

Zakat Distribution FAQ

How Do We Distribute Your Zakat?

When you donate Zakat, it should ideally be given in cash, in line with the traditions of the Prophet (Sallallahu Elayhi Wasal’lam), his companions, and the consensus of renowned scholars. The specific use of this Zakat by the recipient – be it for shelter, food, debts, etc. – is solely their decision. Our primary responsibility is to ensure that the recipient belongs to one of the categories stipulated in the Qur’an for Zakat. This is where Unite 4 Humanity steps in; we ensure your donations reach those who genuinely qualify.

However, there are exceptions. If a potential recipient is mentally challenged, or a minor, or there’s a risk they might misuse the funds, it’s permissible to cater to their needs directly rather than giving cash.

Where Do We Distribute Your Zakat?

We distribute your Zakat to widows, orphans, and the needy in various regions, providing a lifeline to families living in extreme poverty. Here are some of the areas we serve:

  • Africa
  • Syria
  • Burma
  • Gaza
  • Azad & Jammu Kashmir
  • Pakistan
  • Yemen
  • Afghanistan
  • Bangladesh

Your contributions help alleviate the hardships of these vulnerable populations, ensuring they receive essential support and care.

Donate Zakat For The Distribution in the UK

“Charity begins at home.”

When you donate Zakat through U4H, a portion of your contribution is always allocated for distribution within the UK. Thousands of Muslims in the UK face hardships and challenges. We are here to offer them financial help and support when they need it most.

Your Wealth Doesn’t Decrease by Zakat

Zakat does not decrease one’s wealth. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) swore an oath to that effect when he said:

“Charity does not decrease wealth.” Narrated by Muslim.

In fact, Zakat is a means of increasing wealth, bringing barakah (blessing) to it and warding off harm from it.
