Kashmir Crisis Explained
Since the separation in 1947, India and Pakistan have been locked in conflict over the region of Kashmir. Kashmir is a majority Muslim region. 86,000 square mile territory is classed as a paradise on earth.
At the time of separation, Britain decided to divide United India into Muslim majority area (which will be called Pakistan) and Hindu Majority areas (which will be called India). However, Britain didn’t separate the states controlled by Princes and Princesses rather they gave the choice to these state to choose to become part of whichever country they would prefer.
Kashmir was/is a Muslim-Majority region, however, at the time of separation, it will be ruled by a Hindu Prince. Instead of following the principals set at the time of independance Prince decided to make Kashmir a part of India even though the locals wanted to join up with Pakistan.
This started bloody warfare between India, Pakistan and Local Kashmiris. What happened since then is not for a light hearted person. Here are some of the stats from the conflict of Kashmir.
