It is Haram in Islam. Unfortunately, it is very common these days that we will receive ‘interest’ money from banks and building societies. Most of the time it is unwanted money, or unknowingly with a lack of knowledge deposited the money in a scheme where we receive interest. This is well established in the Qur’an:
“O believers, take not doubled and redoubled interest, and fear Allah that you may prosper. Fear the fire which has been prepared for those who reject faith, and obey Allah and the Prophet so that you may receive mercy.” (Surah Aal-Imran, verses 130-2)
What Can You do With that Money?
You can use it to give food to the poor and the needy and orphanages, etc. and you can add to it from your own money as sadaqah and zakah as long as you give it to deserving poor, etc. Mosques and copies of the Qur’an should be kept more sacred by not using such money for them.
Donate that money to Unite 4 Humanity and we will allocate that money to the poor and needy. We will not use this money towards any Islamic projects e.g. building of Masajids and Madrasahs.

If we consider Allah’s Guidance to be essential for success in the Hereafter, then the struggle to stay away from interest despite the prevailing system is our way of achieving Allah’s pleasure. It is difficult. But Allah promises Jannah in the life to come which is everlasting. so, we should ask Allah to pardon us and to overlook our mistakes. Because without His mercy we cannot succeed.
